They were unresponsive and the price was almost double their nearest competitor.
I first reached out in mid February. The initial telephone contact was surly and I had the distinct impression that I had woken her up or dragged her away from paint her toenails. She gave me an email contact saying that the company did not operate by phone contact, email only. I sent a detailed packing list and was promised a quotation.
By the end of March I still had no quotation. So I sent a copy of my baggage certificate, granted for Portuguese customs purposes, supporting documents and an itemised valued packing list, with photographs and dimensions. After a further 3 weeks (including the Easter break, I chased again and was promised a quote by the end of the next day. Needless to say, it did not arrive.
When it finally appeared the price was more than 3 times the expected sum, based on quick quotes for the size and volume of the pack.
I obtained 3 more quotes for comparison. 1 used the packing list provided to Algarve Express and 2 of them did virtual surveys where I walked the valuer through my apartment on a video call, looking at access, along with the items to be moved and note given of special handling requirements.
The quotes came back, all within the space of 4 days. The quotes were all significantly less than Algarve Express, which cost more than two most expensive competitors added together.
I must clarify that my email contact at Algarve Express, though extremely slow to respond, was courteous at all times. And I am unable to comment on the handling of my belongings having chosen not to use them as I didn't feel cared for as a client.
In terms of response times, client care and value for money however I would have to say they fell well short of expectations.Read more
