Moving from London to Oslo

Can you tell us about your recent move from London to Oslo? What prompted the relocation?

We moved from London to Oslo, Norway. The move was a horrible experience with Movega Removals. Movega charged us for another vehicle on the day of our move, while they had our inventory for over a month.

They claimed we’re over 800kg of the 1000kg weight limit, which is basically impossible, as our furniture weighed around 600 kg, and we had 40 medium-sized boxes. They made us pay an additional £3000 on the moving day and still left furniture behind, and our things arrived 5 days late on a half-empty truck.

It was an extremely stressful and traumatic experience. I don’t know how they could have 5-star reviews everywhere as they\’re basically scammers, and I doubt this only happened to us.

What made you choose Movega Removals as your moving company?

They seemed proactive, very responsive, and gave a reasonable quote. I did my research, looked them up, and they had very good reviews everywhere. They also offered packing and unpacking services, which seemed helpful as we moved with 2 small kids and 3 pets. Their branding was nice, and they seemed legit, so I thought they were a proper moving company with their own staff, drivers, and vans. I received other, similar quotes, but based on the above, I picked them, hoping I made the right choice… little did I know…

What happened on the actual moving day?

It was a horrible day. Out of the 3 packers, only 2 spoke English, and they didn’t listen to any instructions or requests. They loaded 90% of our things onto the van by the afternoon when the driver started to claim we\’re overweight. We didn’t believe him as I researched and calculated the weight for all our furniture, and they were about 600kg, and our contents fit into 40 medium-sized boxes.

The driver went away to weigh the vehicle, and I got a call that we’re 800 kg over the 1000kg weight limit, which is impossible! That would have meant that each box we had weighed 30kg, while they were mostly clothes and household goods. We didn’t have a choice and had to pay an additional £3000 for a second vehicle. Despite paying £8000 for the service, our stuff arrived 5 days late, and they still left some furniture behind and arrived with a half-empty truck.

It was a very stressful and traumatic experience.

How was the experience with the moving crew?

Avoid Movega Removals and don’t believe their 5-star reviews. They just outsource everything, don’t have their own staff or vans or anything, and they\’re after your money.

I wish I had chosen a different company, or tried to change companies when Movega started to claim we might be overweight, 1 week before our move, while they had our inventory for over a month. We gave away lots of stuff and furniture last week to make sure we fit the weight limit, and they still charged us, while leaving behind additional furniture. We didn’t just lose another £3000 that we didn’t have, but hundreds of pounds on lost furniture, additional costs with accommodation, and removals.
