I was relocating for my husband’s job, as he got a wonderful offer and opportunity over in Canada. The experience of moving was daunting at first, as there were a lot of logistics to figure out and consider.

Collection Day in the UK

On moving day, a delivery driver was scheduled to arrive in the morning. Unfortunately, I had to pick up my mum from the airport early in the morning, but heavy traffic on the M25 delayed us significantly. I reached out to the Deliver1 team to let them know and to ask if there was an alternative time. They were kind enough to push the collection forward. By the new agreed time, we were home and had prepared everything.

The driver checked the site for inventory and collected the items without any issues.

Customs Rules and Shipping Restrictions

I would strongly advise that movers read the rules around what’s allowed for shipping and what isn’t. We initially made the mistake of overlooking this and packed a few forbidden items.

Fortunately, it was noted early, long before the scheduled flight date, and Deliver1 helped with the removal so we could avoid extra fees in Canada.

Practical Advice for Moving from the UK to Canada

I would also recommend using strong boxes, doubling them if possible, especially for heavy items. Make sure you take inventory of literally everything and provide detailed descriptions.
