I contacted this company after finding them online to arrange the shipment of my vehicle to the United Kingdom from abroad. I decided to proceed with them because their quoted price was relatively more competitive compared to other providers and based on the scope of services they stated they would deliver during our discussions.
From the very beginning, I clearly explained that I had no prior experience in this field and that I had never shipped a vehicle by sea before. I also explicitly stated that I did not wish to make any additional payments beyond the quoted fee. These conditions were accepted and approved by the company.
Despite this, when I delivered my vehicle to customs, I was informed that I was required to make an additional USD 200 payment for customs-related charges, which I was compelled to pay. Furthermore, I was advised that the vessel would be delayed and that I would be charged an additional USD 30 per day for vehicle storage at the port. This was in direct contradiction to the assurances given by the company that the vehicle would be loaded onto a vessel departing on the same day.
As a result of these issues, I was forced to wait for approximately six hours under extremely unfavourable weather conditions. Due to the risk of missing my flight, I had no option but to travel from Gebze to Istanbul by taxi, which resulted in further unforeseen and unnecessary expenses.
After arriving in the UK, I received no communication, guidance, or updates from the company. Although I was initially informed that the vessel would arrive on the 12th, I only became aware—after explicitly following up—that the actual arrival date was the 17th.
Moreover, only after persistent enquiries was I informed that I would be required to handle the UK customs clearance process myself and independently locate a local agent. I was forced to learn about the required documentation through third parties and subsequently request the necessary documents from the company. After continuous pressure, I was finally provided with the contact details of an agent they claimed to work with regularly; however, this agent stated that they only handle commercial shipments.
During this process, I personally contacted the shipping line and completed the booking arrangements myself, later informing the relevant agent by email. Despite the fact that my vehicle is UK-registered and was returning to the UK, it was incorrectly treated as an overseas import. I was instructed to complete the C179B form, as referenced on the UK government website, and in addition, I was asked to pay over £300 for the company’s own documentation. This approach was both highly unprofessional and deeply concerning.
As a result, I contacted an alternative company who completed all procedures on the same day for £90, without causing any stress or inconvenience. During this time, Ascope Shipping did not even respond to phone calls.
In conclusion, this company demonstrated a serious lack of professionalism in terms of communication, process management, and transparency. I would strongly advise others not to be misled by their initially lower pricing. The additional costs, time lost, and stress experienced during the process far outweigh any perceived initial savings.Read more
