537What followed was weeks of bad faith complaints handling. The destroyed bookcase cost £70 to replace. Their opening offer was £40 — below their own contractual liability cap of £50 per item, and well below the actual replacement cost. Despite photographic evidence, IKEA confirming in writing that repair was impossible, and escalation to their own dispute resolution scheme (Move Assured), their position never moved beyond £50 for both items combined — less than the cost of replacing a single destroyed bookcase, let alone two.
No apology was ever offered. The managing director handled the complaint personally throughout. His responses were dismissive, relied on arguments contradicted by his own terms and conditions, and never reflected good faith engagement with a legitimate claim.
The matter is now being pursued through the County Court. The crew were great. The company that employs them is another matter entirely.Read more
