This company currently have my possessions and I have had to block their emails and cease all communications due to their harassing contact.
While charging reasonable storage fees, when I asked to remove my items from their warehouse, they attempted to charge me double what it cost to move it from across the country, yet only for a distance of 10 miles. When I queried this and asked for a breakdown of the cost, all communications ceased for several weeks. In the end I was forced to go to the warehouse in Wells, listed on their website. (Falck Depot)
This warehouse is empty and no longer occupied by T Wicks and Son.I then went to the address listed on T Wicks and Sons last submissions to Companies House, a charted accountant who state that they do not represent this company.
At this point I told them I would cease all payments until they let me know where my belongings were and could prove they were in suitable condition from appropriate storage. I was never informed that my items would be stored anywhere else.
They have refused this at every request - over a year on, they will not tell me where my belongings are until I pay their fees, yet will not prove they have my belongings in the first place.
At one point, they stated that I could only have my things if I also signed a non-disclosure contract, which I refused. This in itself is highly suggestive.
In addition to this, on closer inspection of their invoices, these do not meet HMRC regulations- no address, no contact, no business number and they are using the VAT number of Nightingales Removals in Weston-super-Mare. When I asked for an explanation around this, they have outright ignored the question and instead pressured me to make payments.
I am not the only person in this position- I have spoken to 2 others who have been forced to pay outrageously expensive fees to recover their items. I can also see other reviews on Google and other sites that are consistent with my experience.
I am in a position where T Wicks and their demands outweigh the cost of my IKEA furniture - I have been forced to abandon my items and block their communications, due to their harassing and distressing nature.
Reported to HMRC for their VAT status, the ICO for refusing to provide information that they hold on me (refusing to provide a signed copy of my contract, proving what I agreed to pay), Trading Standards for their practices and local MP Tessa Munt, who I believe is watching the company very closely, following complaints from myself and others. I would advise others in my position to contact her.
I believe at one point this was a respectable local company, who were later bought out and are now running a highly suspect storage operation. I strongly advise others who are storing with them to get in contact and find out where their belongings are.Read more
I stored furniture with them and while in storage there were no apparent issues. The problems started when I tried to retrieve my goods. They quoted over £4000 to move two van-loads from storage in Somerset to Surrey which I thought was too expensive so I engaged a different firm to move the furniture. T Wicks still wanted over £1000 just to remove the items from storage which I had to agree to.
We agreed a date but T Wicks would not reveal the storage location for pickup and failed to respond to multiple emails and calls. At the last minute they said they would not release the furniture until all outstanding storage costs were paid, something they had never mentioned before, even though they had not sent me a final invoice. The other firm that was going to collect the furniture had to cancel the pickup as they had other bookings and could not get the location.
T Wicks then demanded a £500 cancellation fee, even though it was their fault. I refused to pay and tried to raise a complaint but they did not even bother to acknowledge my complaint.
There then followed a long period where T Wicks issued repeated demands and threats of legal action, while ignoring my attempts to resolve the dispute. They rarely answered the phone and were unhelpful when I got through. I was told only one person could deal with my case, this person was often off sick and hardly ever replied to my emails. T Wicks does not appear to be a member of the National Guild of Removers and thus I couldn't use the Ombudsman Scheme, another reason to avoid them.
Finally and unexpectedly T Wicks offered me a 'deal' where they would waive the fees under dispute. However they were still unable to confirm the amount outstanding, when they did finally come up with a number it was wrong and they appeared unable to understand my detailed explanation of what I owed. They still overcharged me (which I paid in order to avoid missing a second pickup date) and then ignored all attempts to contact them for a refund.
I was unsurprised to find much of my furniture was damaged when I finally received it.
An absolute disgrace of a company pretending to be a long-established family-run firm.Read more
