Hired JCL Transports for an international move. [Name removed by Sirelo], my contact, was polite and professional. I clearly stated my belongings fit into 8m³ (two half-full 5m³ storage units). Still, I was charged for a 20m³ truck — “just to be safe,” she said.
When all was settled I learned that since I was alone to help driver, I had to paid extra €900 for someone to help unload everything. That someone turned out to be a polite and helpful young student, but definitely not a professional. And he definitely didn't earn that amount. Bless him.
Then came the truck, not from JCL fleet like shown pictures, two hours late — but well he moved borders and eras we could say. It was a vintage battered old van with a wooden cargo area covered by a loose plastic tarp with a poland numberplate, like he was coming directly from a movie, a bad movie without budget. Inside? My belongings casually thrown in, mixed with random items that weren’t mine. My sewing machine? Upside down, sitting on top of old, rusted junk. A masterclass in disrespect. Even the driver looked uncomfortable when I pointed it out.
No table legs. And to make things worse, the movers padlocked the storage units shut ( with table legs inside along with a very discreet roll of 50mts of heavy fabric)— even though I had clearly told [Name removed by Sirelo] to leave them open, as required to cancel the contract. JCL did pay the penalty for that mistake. So far so good. These things happens.
When I called [Name removed by Sirelo] to report all of this, she was only concerned about one thing: that I sign the delivery papers so driver could go and pay the remaining balance. Which, like a fool, I did.
That’s when things shifted, and the Great Table Leg Mystery began.
No answers, no follow-up. Just missed calls, [Name removed by Sirelo in vacation, hang-ups, a vague “Ruth” replacing [Name removed by Sirelo], a delivery that never came, my own trip projects delayed 10 days waiting for the table legs that never walked in. [Name removed by Sirelo] finally returned, apologetic at first to guilt-trip me about my inflexible dates before ghosting me completely and finally blocking me.
Table legs still on the run but apparently somewhere in south Portugal this time and [Name removed by Sirelo] stays the only decent human that still reverts really trying to update.
The move was three months ago. Still no table legs. But like [Name removed by Sirelo] says : 'We'll have to paciently wait.'
'Indeed !' I answered.
