Well long story, but we moved 16 years ago from Scotland to get away from the rain and have a lifestyle change in sunny Spain. And we both agree it has been the correct decision for us.
We started a Golf tour company from scratch in August 2008. and we are still here. We are called golf4ualicante.com. Moving to another country is difficult, more so because of the Red tape but once we got everything sorted our time here has been great. We couldn’t bring all of our personal belongings at 1st.
My wife’s father had a townhouse in Torrevieja Spain just 45 minutes south of Alicante, so she knew this area very well from about 1983.
We moved because of the weather in Scotland, rain rain and more rain. We came over in 2007 for a holiday and discovered many golf courses in the area, so we did more research and found there was a place for us to start a golf tour company. We have been here many years now and are residents in Spain so can travel freely in the EU. We love the laid-back lifestyle and enjoy the sunshine and dining al fresco most of the year.
The process was quite daunting at first but with the help of Joana, we managed to complete the forms for customs and the transportation of our belongings. There was notification of pick up time and day and they were on time and took the boxes away. The only issue was that Spanish customs held the parcels up at customs despite the completed forms and instead of receiving this on 18th November it was 21st November which considering all the horror stories we heard we were really fortunate as we were going on holiday a few days later and worried they may be delivered and we weren’t here to receive them.
Make sure you follow the instructions for the company as it makes everything a lot smoother. We ordered boxes from Amazon to my friend’s house and then we went to our old house and collected all our personal items then used the boxes loading them into the boxes using the labels provided.
We found the whole process very easy and recommend this company to use if you wish your belongings to reach the destination. Only one water jug was broken which of course belonged to my father who has passed. It had no value financially but lots of sentimental value.
