Returning Home to Canada

A Professional, Reassuring Experience with GB Liners

A Complicated and Emotional Decision

Our reasons for moving are complicated and emotional. We came to a decision fairly quickly to return home to Canada from the UK.

We wasted a lot of time waiting on a local mover to get back to us with key information. Then, I input my details here on Sirelo, and was contacted by movers right away. From there, things took a really positive turn. Initially, I was sceptical — but I soon met with four companies who all surveyed our goods (either in person or via video call), and we could compare the quotes and services offered.

Why We Chose GB Liners

It was really a combination of things that made us choose GB Liners:

  • They were quick to respond to my Sirelo enquiry
  • The assessor/surveyor was able to meet in person very quickly
  • He was incredibly professional and gave strong reassurances
  • They were also very competitive on price

I’d read reviews of all the companies we met with, but it was my own interactions with the team at GB Liners that helped make the decision.

Another deciding factor was that they have local crews of their own, so they ensured quality control from start to finish — the people who handled our account and packed and moved us were all staff of the same company. Again, this helped reassure us.

Moving Day: Calm, Efficient, and Thoughtful

Our move took place over two days.

  • The first day was spent with a two-person team packing the vast majority of our belongings, leaving us with comfort items for a last night in the flat (bed, TV, kitchen stuff etc.).
  • The second day added another two movers, who loaded the truck and packed the final bits.

I would say everything went to plan. The team was really efficient and packed things up quickly and professionally. I never had any worries about something being damaged and never felt like anything was being rushed.

We had downsized a bit between the initial estimate and the move, and I’d disassembled as much furniture as I could — that meant we had some extra space. We were able to pack everything in our ‘last to load’ category, and even a few bits that we probably would’ve otherwise disposed of. I’d say it all went like clockwork, and the team kept me informed as it went. There were definitely no issues or negative surprises.

Tips for Others Planning a Move

My top tip would be to do a bit of research, but also to trust your instincts. We wasted a lot of time trying to work with a mover we’d used for an in-town move a few years back — and that’s how I found myself using this site. It made everything so much easier, and it was great to get competitive quotes.

Some other things to keep in mind:

  • Do a bit of homework to see what certain things might cost (e.g., parking suspension — something you could do on your own)
  • Know what different companies are charging
  • Remember that moving is at least in part an emotional decision — you want to trust the people moving your whole life
  • Trust in how people make you feel
