What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

We are relocating to Poland for family and work reasons. We started sending some boxes one by one but ultimately that would not work for furniture and we realized the number of boxes was much more than what we expected. So we started looking online for movers but they all came with different requirements and prices were quite high. Ultimately we tried Sirelo to be able to access many quotes at once and it was pretty good. All top three movers called me and were very professional, ultimately it came down to price, where Kanguro was almost half of the others.
The move itself was brilliant both because of the company but also because we packed everything neatly in identical boxes etc. Overall no stress at all!

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

We did some research on Google, but it took too long to get quotes and compare them. All companies that were in our research on Sirelo called me a few times and were very helpful. Ultimately we chose Kanguro because of price and reactivity, they answer emails within a couple of hours and answer every doubt you might have. Since Brexit, the process of moving to Europe comes with some custom forms and paperwork, and Kanguro was able to assist with every requirement. So very happy altogether about the move!

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

My family was already in our next house when the moving day happened, so it was down to me. On the day I lined up two strong friends as I paid for a service where the driver only arranges the boxes in the truck but doesn’t load them.
Unfortunately, even after mentioning a number of times to the company that only a large van would be able to drive into the back alley, they still sent a truck instead of the 20m3 van they promised… So the truck had to park on the high street and we had to carry the boxes 100 yards. Other than that brilliant, the boxes arrived at our place in Europe 36 hours later, and the truck took less than 10 minutes to unload!

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

  • First you have to do your research, online or ask friends about their moving companies. Quotes can be double or triple if you don’t.
  • Then when you chose one, make sure you have enough time to handle all the paperwork, especially if you’re going abroad, Brexit changed a lot of rules, so have all the paperwork ready at least 5-7 days before the move.
  • Then pack well! Identical boxes will pile up nicely. Some brown cardboard boxes are not designed to handle a move. Spend a bit more on boxes and you’ll be dandy! I was lucky to get some from a neighbor and they didn’t even need tape and could handle 25 kilos each.
  • Pack furniture as much as you can, put “FRAGILE” where it’s needed and tell the driver about it.
