Are you interested in moving to Madrid? Follow along with Nina and her family’s story as they take on the exciting journey to the beautiful city of Madrid. Read more of her experience and tips for new movers.

What were your reasons for moving? What was the experience like?

I got a new job opportunity in Madrid and we decided to move as a family. Selecting the moving company was challenging as they are not directly comparable. Also prices differ significantly, but being able to reach out to 5 of them at the same time was helpful. At the beginning of the experience it was stressful, as you don’t know what to look for in any proposal or what you need to tell the movers. But in our case Moving Home Company helped us with providing all the right information. Others just sent a form, for us to fill in.

What made you choose this mover? Did you do any research?

They were the most competitive in price and they had solutions for all of our questions. Even though there was a small misunderstanding in regards to paperwork on their side, they resolved it.
They took us through the process and we knew what to expect from them. Whereas other companies were more focused on getting us to agree to price. They were also the only team willing to load in two locations. The other two bidders increased the price substantially due to that requirement. And last but not least, their offer was very clear on what’s included and what isn’t.

Take us through your moving day – did everything go as planned? What worked and what didn’t?

We had 2 moving days. First day the driver and the packing team arrived to get the better idea of the items. Then 2 packers did a great job of boxing almost the entire flat in that day. They had packed 93 boxes on the first day and we got the reassurance that they can get it all done in 2 days.
The next day, a 5 person team arrived to start loading on the truck, while 2 were still packing larger furniture. We finished it all by late afternoon, and the truck was on its way the next day.
The truck arrived 4 days later in Madrid. Again with a great team of 2 local guys and the driver, who helped us offload it all. We had taken one sofa too much and they were also willing to take it with them.

Based on your experience, what are your top tips you’d like to share to help others for their own moves?

When looking for which company to move with, make sure to question the price, as they differ greatly. Also, the team that comes and packs has a lot more experience on what you can take and not take. We had unfortunately given away all our plants, even though we have then learned we could have taken most with us.
We have found video calls very helpful to get a better price estimate than just making a list of items. Ask what documents they will sort out and what is expected from you. We have had a small glitch, as we were relocating back to the EU, but it was resolved by the experienced team.
